Murali Prakash - President

Having started playing badminton in 1974 as a junior member at St. Anthony’s College, where the sport was introduced that year, he earned college colours and captained the team in 1979/80. He won the Central Province Under-16 Triple Crown in 1979 and the Central Province Open Doubles Championship with Jagath Liyanage in 1980, a notable achievement given the sport's recent introduction at the college. He also contributed to building a strong junior team under the guidance of Mr. R.N.A. de Silva.

"Having left college at the age of 17, he held several key corporate positions over four decades. His roles included Group MD/CEO of Brown’s Group of companies and Ambeon Holdings Group, Chairman Galoya Holdings, Executive Director Laugfs, and Singer Group of Companies."

Was adjudged as 'Outstanding Entrepreneur for 2012' at the Asia-Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards and was included in LMD's Hall of Fame A-Team Corporate Captains as one of the top 100 business and professional personalities for 2019 and 2020.

He has held numerous leadership roles in professional associations such as CMI (UK), CMA (Aus), The Management Club of Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lanka Retailers Association. He is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Asia Pacific Retailers Association. He holds an MBA from Australia and is an alumnus of the National University of Singapore and the Asian Institute of Management, Manila. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (UK), Certified Management Accountants Australia, Chartered Professional Managers of Sri Lanka and is also a Certified Professional Marketers (APAC).

Rahal De Silva - Secretary

Rahal De Silva, joined St Anthony’s College in 1971 . He was renowned for his academic excellence in that era and was the best performer at the National Certificate of General Education Examination in the year 1976.

He is a career and a professional banker and an Associate of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (AIB).

Rahal commenced his career at Hatton National Bank Plc and moved over to Seylan Bank Plc, where after several attachments in Branches and moving upto Managerial positions, was finally attached to the Bank’s Corporate Banking Department, serving as a Senior Relationship Manager for a long stint.

He is a current Committee member and active in the Old Boy’s Association of St. Anthony’s College, Kandy.

Jagath Liyanage - Vice President

Jagath Joined St Anthony’s College in 1973 in Grade 06 & continued up to Advanced level. He started his badminton career in Under 14 & went on to Captain the College Team in 1981. During this time Jagath has won many National & Provincial Tournaments & is currently the Vice President of Antonian Badminton Club. His Passion for Badminton is continuing & despite his busy work life he finds time to continue playing.

Jagath is a seasoned Marketing professional with a career spanning 38 years. He is a qualified “Professional Marketer” Certified by Asian Marketing Federation & has the privilege of working in both leading Blue-Chip companies in Sri Lanka & Global companies.

His experience across diverse sectors such as Tea, FMCG, and the Apparel Industry counts his contribution to Sri Lankan Corporate world.

Jagath is currently the General Manager - Sri lanka at Coats Thread Exports PVT Ltd which is part of Coats Group PLC head quartered in UK.

Geethanga Aariyarathne - Asst. Treasurer

Having started playing badminton in 1995, Geethanga cultivated a passion for the sport that paralleled his academic endeavors. After completing his advanced-level education, he left college in 2003 to pursue a promising career in finance.

Geethanga's career in the finance field is a testament to his versatility and wide-ranging expertise. With over 20 years of diverse experience, he has held significant positions in various industries, including Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), manufacturing, technology, agriculture, and financial services, both locally and internationally. His adaptability and expertise have allowed him to make impactful contributions in each sector.

Geethanga is a distinguished Fellow Member of the Chartered Management Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in the UK. His dedication to professional development is further demonstrated by his acquisition of several prestigious certifications, including Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA), Australia. In addition to his extensive professional qualifications, Geethanga holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Cardiff Metropolitan University in the UK. This academic achievement underscores his commitment to continuous learning and professional excellence.

Geethanga is the Associate Director of Finance for South Asia at Fonterra, the largest multinational dairy exporter globally. In this role, he oversees financial operations and strategic planning for the South Asian market, leveraging his extensive experience to drive growth and operational efficiency. Geethanga's professional journey is a testament to his capability and potential. With a robust blend of academic prowess, professional qualifications, and extensive industry experience, he continues to excel in the field of finance. His leadership at Fonterra is marked by strategic acumen and a deep understanding of diverse financial landscapes, positioning him as a key player in the global finance sector.

With the dawn of Badminton at St. Anthony's in 1974, as a young 13-year-old he was taught by Mr. R.N.A. De Silva the way to hold the badminton racket for the first time on the only available outdoor court at SACK then.

From there on, he went on to win the Central Province Singles Championships in under 14, 16, and 19 categories. Apart from captaining the college Badminton team during the period 1978 - 1979, his most noteworthy achievements included being the first schoolboy to win the Central Province Open Badminton Championship in 1978 and the first schoolboy from Central Province to have won the National Novices Triple Crown in 1979. Thereby, Monnekulame received the most coveted Rev. Fr. Columban Macky Memorial Trophy Awarded to the boy who by Performance, Example & Good Behaviour brought Credit to the School through Sports, plusThe Eagle, and Colours from College for the distinction of winning the above titles.

Once leaving college, he began his career at Nestle Lanka, where he worked in the Brand Management Team before moving to the United Kingdom to work at First e Finance. Upon his return to Sri Lanka Senaka joined Microsoft, & headed the project in streamlining the retail sector. After his tenure at Microsoft, he worked as the CEO of Crimson Pvt Ltd and later served as the Head of HR & Admin for Theme Resorts (Thema Collection), and bid farewell to his career to enjoy his retirement life.

Udaya Weerakoon - Committee Member

Having started playing badminton in 1976, at the age of 11 years, under the guidance of Mr. R.N.A. De Silva, I won the all-island novices title in 1979 becoming the youngest to win the all-island Novices triple crown in Sri Lanka at the age of 14 years. In 1979, I was selected to represent the Sri Lankan team against the visiting Nepal team in 1979.

Having started playing badminton in 1976, at the age of 11 years, under the guidance of Mr. R.N.A. In 1979, I was selected to represent the Sri Lankan team against the visiting Nepal team in 1979.

I became the central province champion in 1980 and continued to perform at the junior national level. In 1984 I represented the Sri Lanka team at the Thomas Cup tournament in New Delhi and was a team member in the tour of the UK and USSR. I represented Sri Lanka at the Thomas Cup championships in 1984/1986/1988/1990/1992. I won my first national badminton doubles title partnering with Niroshan Wijekoon in 1983 and continued representing Sri Lanka in all the major international tournaments from 1983 to 1992. I won the following national titles in my badminton career: -

1. National badminton single champion – 1988
2. National badminton double champion -1983/ 1985 /1986 / 1987/ 1988
3. National badminton mixed doubles champion – 1985 / 1987 / 1988

The crowning moment of my badminton career was winning the National Badminton Triple Crown in 1988.

I joined Air Lanka in 1985 as a ticketing agent and represented Air Lanka in all major tournaments worldwide. I became World Airlines badminton singles champion in 1988 representing Air Lanka at the World Airlines championship in Copenhagen, Denmark. I was a member of the Air Lanka team which became SAARC Airline Champions in 1992 and captained the Air Lanka team which became World Airlines team champions in 1995.

I earned college colors in 1978 and in 1979 was awarded the Antonian Eagle for representing Sri Lanka and was re-awarded in 1980/ 1981/ 1982 / 1983. I was a college prefect and was appointed senior prefect in 1983.

My passion was to fly an airplane and I obtained my commercial pilot license at Qualiflight Flight Training Academy in Dallas Fortworth, Texas, USA in 1991. I joined Air Lanka as a pilot in 1994 and have flown Lockheed L1011 Tristar, and Airbus A318 / A319 / A320 / A321/ A330 / A340 worldwide. In 2020 I retired from Sri Lankan Airlines after 35 years and currently am flying for Fits Air.

Devaka Ekanayake - Asst. Secretary

Devaka joined St. Anthony’s College, Kandy in 1990, where he began playing badminton at the age of 8. Starting in grade 3, his passion for the sport flourished, leading him to become an all-island champion in numerous singles, doubles, and team events across various age groups. His exceptional skills earned him a place on the Sri Lanka junior team three times, and he served as the team captain in 2001. In 2002, he became the badminton captain at his college.

In recognition of his outstanding performances in both sports and academics, Devaka was awarded the prestigious Bede Memorial Gold Medal in 2003. After completing school, he pursued a degree in engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. Concurrently, he obtained a postgraduate diploma in marketing from the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing.

Devaka's career in engineering began shortly after his graduation. He is now a founder and director of Serenity Group Limited, a company incorporated in Uganda, focusing on infrastructure development projects. Through his role, he continues to apply his expertise and leadership skills to drive innovation and growth.
